ChatGPT Essay: What Matters Most to Me

Categories: ChatGPT | Essays

This is the first of a series of an ongoing series posts on ChatGPT.  The next in the series is “ChatGPT and I discuss its ability to write essays and advice for how to use it effectively.”

Below is an essay I made very quickly on my first try with ChatGPT.  While far from being a great essay in terms of the level of personal detail, it provides an instant model that could be easily be rewritten and turned into an application essay. I am not advocating using this tech, but I plan to fully explore its potential, which is immense.

Anyone who thinks that ChatGPT will not be used to write essays is delusional. It can be used effectively to make initial drafts, help provide structure, and otherwise assist writers. It is not a question of whether to use it but rather how it should be used.  I see its potential as a learning tool, a quick modeling tool, and a rough first draft generator.

Adam: I would like to write an essay about what matters the most to me. It should be 600 words long. What matters most to me is justice because I want to make the world a just place. Please include a story about when I was child and faced injustice because I was bullied. Then discuss my recovery from this negative experience. Finally please discuss how I used my position at the International Finance Corporation to bring justice to many people in the developing world.

https://chat.openai.com/:

Justice is one of the most important values to me. I strongly believe that every person deserves to be treated fairly and justly, regardless of their background or social status. I have always been passionate about making the world a just place, and this has been a driving force throughout my life.

When I was a child, I faced injustice in the form of bullying. I was constantly picked on and teased by my classmates, and it was a difficult experience to go through. I felt like I was being treated unfairly, and it was hard to understand why these kids were being so mean to me. I tried to ignore it and pretend like it didn’t bother me, but deep down, it really hurt.

Thankfully, I was able to recover from this negative experience. With the help of my parents and a few close friends, I was able to build up my confidence and learn to stand up for myself. I realized that the bullies were just trying to bring me down because they were insecure about themselves. It wasn’t about me, it was about them. Once I understood that, I was able to let go of the hurt and move on.

As I grew older, my passion for justice only grew stronger. I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the world and help to bring about a more just society. When I started working for the International Finance Corporation, I saw an opportunity to do just that.

In my position, I was able to work with people in developing countries who were often marginalized and oppressed. I saw firsthand how unfair the world could be, and I was determined to use my position to make a positive impact. I worked hard to ensure that our projects were designed to benefit local communities, and that they were implemented in a way that was fair and just for everyone involved.

One of the projects that I am particularly proud of was a microfinance initiative that we launched in a rural village in Africa. The goal of the project was to provide small loans to women who wanted to start their own businesses. These women had been overlooked by traditional banks and were often excluded from the formal economy. With our help, they were able to access the funds they needed to start their own businesses and become financially independent.

Seeing the impact that this project had on the lives of these women was incredibly rewarding. It was a small step towards creating a more just world, but it was a step in the right direction. It reminded me that every little bit helps, and that we all have a role to play in creating a more just society.

In conclusion, justice is a value that is incredibly important to me. It is something that I have been passionate about since I was a child, and it has guided me throughout my life. While I have faced injustice in the past, I have been able to overcome those negative experiences and use them as fuel to make a positive impact in the world. Through my work at the International Finance Corporation, I have been able to help bring justice to many people in the developing world. I hope that I can continue to make a difference and help create a more just world for all.

You will note that my instructions did not mention anything about microfinance or rural villages. It just added that whole story itself.  But that story fit into my directions for that part of the essay. If I had defined my outline better, ChatGPT would have given me an even more detailed story related to the specific facts I was providing to it.
